Last weekend (10, 11 and 12 october 2014) the annual flower bulb market at the Keukenhof was held. About 20 merchants were selling bulbs and bulbs related things. It is a great spot for finding unusual flower bulbs that you can’t find in the garden shops in Holland. While walking around I heard a lot of people speaking English, German and French so not only Dutch people are visiting this market. This is a photo review of the day. First finding a parking space at the main entrance (bus entrance) of Keukenhof.
The entrance for the bulb markets free and you can walk around the Keukenhof park too. Gardeners are working hard to plant all the 7 million flower bulbs by hand.
2015 will be the Vincent van Gogh year at the Keukenhof as you can see in the flower mosaic. The market is held at the Oranje Nassau Pavilion in the middle of the park.
About 20 merchants are selling bulbs. Not only tulips but you can find Allium, Narcissus, Crocus too.
On Friday I could see some people walking around with little list to find those special bulbs that they are looking for. Yes, I found a lot of my wish list too! Too see what will be planted in my own garden please have a look at the Pinterest page of Tulips in Holland. After the shopping I decided to walk around the park – strange to find the park so empty without the flower bulbs in bloom. But it is lovely sight to see all the trees turning into autumn colors.
Than it was time to head back home and sort out all the bulbs I have bought. In the next weeks I am going to plant them in my own garden. I found a couple of these signs that I just had to bought …. (translation: Caution: flower bulbs are asleep here)
Have a great autumn and see you all back in springtime! More photos of this day on our Flickr page!
