Paul McCartney honoured with Dutch tulip
Amsterdam, June 7, 2015 – Just before his first concert in the Ziggo Dome Paul McCartney christens his own tulip: a red tulip with distinctive white border. The botanical name is Tulipa ‘Paul McCartney’. The colours of the tulip are a reference to Liverpool, birthplace of the legendary musician. The tulip is offered by growers association Remarkable Tulips for his enormous contribution to music history. Paul McCartney was visibly honoured with his tulip. The colours and the associated symbolism speak to the legendary musician. Red stands for passion and love and white symbolizes unlimited opportunities. McCartney added to that the meaning of “peace.”
The breeding process of the new tulip by the growers association Remarkable Tulips from Lisse lasted nearly twenty years. The initiative to name the tulip to Paul McCartney comes from Rose van Teylingen and bulb grower Jack Uittenbogaard, a member of Remarkable Tulips. Uittenbogaard: “It is personally a long-held wish to honour my musical hero with a Dutch tulip. Perhaps we plant in the garden of Paul McCartney his tulip this autumn. ” The Royal bulb company Jac. Uittenbogaard & Zn from Noordwijkerhout (The Netherlands) is one of the companies that will have the new tulip in production. Expected is that the Paul McCartney Tulip will be available within 3 years.
Rose van Teylingen who took the initiative for the christening also created a big Tulip painting illustrating the Paul McCartney tulip and different subjects from his songs. Paul happily received the painting.
