Flower update – week 12
The daffodils are in bloom in the fields and I expect to see them as well in bloom at Keukenhof. There is still no sign of blooming hyacinths; these flowers are next in line to bloom and help to predict if we have an early or regular springtime. Last year they were blooming on the first week of April. (Spring 2015 was a regular springtime)
The weather is still very grey; when the sun breaks through the clouds it is very nice weather but for now the sun is still hiding. And the flowers need a bit of sunshine to grown and get too bloom.
And there are tulips in bloom at Keukenhof at the indoor tulip exhibition. The Willem-Alexander pavilion near the windmill shows some color on the photos of Keukenhof. And according to the website of Keukenhof there will be another tulip show at the Oranje Nassau Pavillion.
When you travel to Keukenhof this weekend please bring your umbrella, a waterproof coat and shoes and for the people traveling from warmer climates bring a hat and scarf. Daytime temperatures are expected to be somewhere between 1 and 12 degrees C. (34 F – 54 F) and some rain is forecasted. Dress in layers especially when you are planning to bike around to find the daffodils in the fields.
During Easter weekend there are some Drum and Marching band performances and there are Bird of Prey shows. At the entrance you will find the activities and locations on the announcement board.
Periscope
We will do live Periscopes this year, you can walk with me for a while when I am exploring the Tulips in Holland. The different time zones will be taken into account. I will announce the periscopes on Twitter and Facebook so keep an eye there.
