Waking up next to the tulip fields at Landal Beach Resort Ooghduyne

Last weekend I spend at the top of North Holland the area in the Netherlands with the largest tulip fields. I stayed at Landal Beach Resort Ooghduyne for the weekend and what a lovely place. It is the perfect place for waking up next to the tulip fields! On walking and biking distance from the resort you can find numerous flower fields during spring season. And there are many tulip related activities in the surroundings. Perfect for a tulip weekend!

When you enter the resort you can see a lot of building activities. A large fire damaged the main area of the resort and they are rebuilding the subtropical swimming pool, bowling alley, and indoor playground for children. A restaurant, bike rental facilities and park reception area will be included as well. The new center will open at the summer of 2016 and before the opening the guest can use the facilities in the direct surrounding of the park.

We had a lovely luxurious villa for 4 persons. It is equipped with all things you need during a stay and if you have little kids a cod and high chair are provided. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms a sauna room, a sun shower (love that!) in one of the bathrooms and TV/video there is no need to leave the villa during a relaxing weekend. Even Wi-Fi is included!

But I really wanted to see the tulips in the direct surrounding of the park. This area is well known for all the long flower fields. If you have your (rental) car with you, you can drive along the area for days. The resort is located very close to the beach, which give you perfect views to the fields from the dunes. Just next to the park – at the area with the 12 -16 person houses (perfect for a family or group stay!) you have a direct view on these tulip fields and the hyacinths fields are next to them. I wish I could share the lovely fragrance online with you all.

This resort has a very special feature! They have small rental houses at the beach. We had dinner at Beach Pavilion Paal 6 – the beef Sate and the vegetarian Gyros are recommended. And don’t forget to have a look at their desserts! – After dinner we walked along the beach to these houses. With a lovely porch deck and large windows these houses are definitely an option for a future summer visit.

What to do in the area when you are a tulip lover?

In the direct area of the resort you have Tulpen land – an informative park about tulips, very suitable for children. And a bit further on you can find the Hortus Bulborum, a beautiful living museum with many old bulbs even bulbs from before the 1600. They preserve these beautiful bulbs for the future. And there is a colorful tulip picking garden nearby. I will write some reviews about these activities soon.

What to do if you are not a tulip lover?

When you are the only tulip lover in your travel party, it might be interesting to know that there are many other options nearby. On the park there is a 9 Golf course (bring your golf license) and a driving range where you can tee of in the direction of the water with floating golfballs.

The area is perfect for biking and other outdoor activities like hiking though the dune area. The nearby city of Den Helder has all the shops you might need. I visited the Marine Museum in Den Helder with an impressive submarine you can visit. The other ships and indoor exhibitions are a must when you have kids until the age of 10 years. It is a very interactive hands-on museum with scavenger hunts in different age groups.
