Happy National Tulip Day 2018
Every year on the third Saturday of January the start of the tulip season is celebrated with National Tulip Day. You won’t find tulips in the fields in January but you can find them in every flower shop in the Netherlands.
The promotion of the tulips starts with a huge pop up tulip garden right in the city centre of Amsterdam. At Dam Square, in front of the royal palace, 200.000 tulips will be placed in theme of the season. This year they choose for a romantic theme.
From 7 AM a large group of volunteers place the crates full with tulips in a lovely pattern. Around noon the garden is ready and the Dutch press can make photos before every one can pick their own bunch of colorful tulips.
It is a lovely celebration that spreads around the world as well. The city of Antwerpen in Belgium had their first pop up garden as well this year.
