Happy National Tulip Day 2023
National Tulip Day in Amsterdam 2023: Typical Dutch
Every year, on the third Saturday of January we celebrate National Tulip Day in the Netherlands. This year the event was held for the twelfth time and for the 10th time with a large tulip picking garden. This year the event was transferred from the Dam Square to the much larger Museum Square with the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and MoCo Museum as the backdrop.
Around 50 Volunteers placed 200.000 tulips on the museum square in the morning of the 21st of January. The tulips come from tulip growers who grow tulips in their greenhouses. For tulips in the fields you have to wait until springtime. These tulip growers celebrate the start of the indoor tulip season. From this moment tulips are widely available at your local florist.
This year the layout of the tulip picking garden was inspired by a painting of Johannes Vermeer. From the 10th of February until the beginning of June the largest Vermeer Exhibition wil be on display at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Two models of Vermeers paintings: The girl with the pearl earring and the Milkmaid were present at this event.
From 10 am the first people were starting to line up for the entrance. The garden was opened at 1 pm with music of the Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren and a fire show. Have a look at our social media to see photo’s and video’s of the event.
