Exhibition – Vermeers’ Delft – Prinsenhof Delft
The Vermeer exhibition at the Museum Prinsenhof in Delft is a tribute to one of the Netherlands’ most renowned painters, Johannes Vermeer. The exhibition Vermeers’ Delft explores Vermeer’s life and artistic process, highlighting the cultural, social and historical context in which he worked. In the 17th century, Delft was a breeding ground for talent, a place where important innovations took place. Here Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) grew into a world-class painter. For the first time, the life of this world-famous Delft master is central to an exhibition. Top pieces by Delft contemporaries are shown alongside Delft pottery, Delft tapestries, archives and ego documents. With this we sketch a rich picture of the artistic, intellectual and social climate in Delft in the 17th century. The Museum Prinsenhof provides a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to admire Vermeer in his hometown of Delft, where he lived and worked for most of his life. The Vermeer exhibition is a must-visit for anyone interested in the Dutch Golden Age and the art of Johannes Vermeer.
