Last week was another warm and sunny week. I can’t remember the last time we had such a warm and sunny springtime. The people who travelled to the flower fields had perfect weather for photographing and cycling around the tulip fields.
Today I went to the keukenhof and tulip fields with three Belgium photographers. Arriving at 8 AM I was surprised to see that it was already very busy at the car parking lot. Buying tickets went quickly and we were ready to shoot some photos. The keukenhof is gorgeous at the moment. Tulips are in full bloom, still a lot of hyacinths and daffodils to see. The trees are in full blossom and for the first time for me (this year) to see the rhododendrons are starting to flower as well. Some tulips are still closed and the alliums are starting to grow fast! The indoor exhibition with tulips are gone, but the orchids are fine. And in the Willem Alexander pavilion there was a beautiful rose show.
At 1 PM we left the keukenhof to see the flower fields in the area. That was a bit disappointing for me. After last week I was expecting to see a lot of flower fields but due to the very warm (+20 C) weather without rain a lot of fields are over their top of blooming. The daffodil fields are gone. The hyacinths are getting off color and are not that intense anymore. The tulip fields close to the keukenhof are getting ready to be headed. Luckily just a bit further by car we found some nice colored tulip fields so we could still make our photo’s .
For the people who are travelling this week… The keukenhof is wonderful, still lots of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, blossoms etc. to see. For the flower fields prepare to see a bit less than normally around this time. (for an actual view see the photos) On the other hand you will have warm and sunny weather to travel. Some rain (not a lot) is expected from Thursday, the flowers will need it.
