The start of the spring season is about to begin. Next week the Keukenhof opens its doors, the signing is up, the parking lots are getting ready and staff is looking forward to the 22nd of March. And not only the Keukenhof is getting ready for the tourists. The little flower shops along the roads are already open for business and the holiday parks are finishing up to open for the season.
Just like last year, I will give a weekly update about the flowers in the Keukenhof area. Photos can be found at my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nring23/collections/
What is the status of the flowers?
This morning (03/16) it was lots of green en yellow. The early daffodils are flowering beautiful. Especially the small daffodils. Some fields are already turned into a sea of yellow.
There aren’t many crocus fields in this area, just found one field in purple color. The tulips and hyacinths fields are still green. Just when I thought that there were no early tulips, I found a small field in a red/orange color. It stood out between the other fields.
So what to expect when you are visiting the keukenhof on opening day?
I peeked into the Keukenhof this morning. Outside I could see next to the green leaves a lot of crocus and daffodils. Just like$ last year I expect to see a lot of different tulips in the greenhouses.
Around the Keukenhof you will find the yellow fields full with daffodils for sure. And I keep my fingers crossed for some hyacinth fields. For the next week the weather should be around the 10-15 degrees C so good for the flowers. For the tulip fields outside the Keukenhof next week will be too early.
Road construction
Close to the keukenhof there is some construction work on the road (specific the Deltaweg between Halfweg and Ruigenhoek to the road n206 is closed for all motorized traffic) People travelling by car between Noordwijk and Keukenhof will have a small detour (along the flower fields so you can enjoy the detour ;-)) People travelling by car/ bus from the directions of Haarlem, Amsterdam, Schiphol, Leiden or The Hague will not be affected by this. (a map can be found in the Flickr map of 2012)
Hope to see you soon in the Keukenhof area! 🙂
