It took a while but inside Keukenhof it starts to look colorful! The grass is growing so the dark soil is turning to friendly green and the thousands of crocuses are in full bloom. It sure looks different than last week. At different places in the park the early tulips are blooming. Especially around the bulb statue the red colored tulips are getting a lot of attention from visitors. The park looks very busy and it won’t be long before both entrances will be used (Until now everybody is entering through the Main entrance (normally only for people traveling by (touringcar)bus)
In the park there is still a lot of green to see. The daffodils give some color next to the crocus and with the warmer weather I expect some hyacinths about to bloom. Nature is still behind a couple of weeks but it is getting better every day. The weather forecast says 22 degrees and sunshine on Sunday so I expect some more flowers at the beginning of next week.
Outside the yellow daffodils are blooming a lot! The hyacinths are still a bit hesitating 🙂 they really need the sun and warmth. Found a couple of tulip fields today. Those were uncovered from plastic (to keep the heat in and cold weather out). Not completely sure but those tulips looked like tulips for the shops to me. That means that they will be cut before they are flowering. The fields with tulips, which are grown for the bulbs, are nothing near blooming. It takes a couple of weeks (I expect at least 2!) before they start.
In the meantime there is a little bit of a problem. Next weekend the 20th of April we have the flower parade and we don’t have a lot of hyacinths that are blooming. I read somewhere that the first flowers were imported from France so they can start with the floats.
Will it be worth to visit Keukenhof next week?
For the first time this year I found it nice to walk around the Keukenhof this morning (at it was raining!) The crocuses give a lot of color to the park, however it is not yet like the beautiful pictures of Keukenhof you find in magazines or see on tv. When you are planning to visit this week, pick the last day of your holiday for Keukenhof. Every day more and more flowers are blooming.
See photos at flickr and videos at youtube for a indication how the Keukenhof and the flower fields looked this morning.
For all people with the question: Will the tulips/flowers bloom at date X ?
I am sorry we still can’t tell. The predictions at this post are an estimate. Due to the extreme cold it is difficult to make a precise forecast this year. The weather is an important factor in this. Just follow the weekly updates and decide for yourself if it is worthwhile to travel to the Keukenhof area
Next update will be next weekend (around the 21st of April).
Hi,
Thanks for the updates. We are planning on going to Keukenhof next weekend. What could we expect around in the fields, outside the gardens? Trying to decide if we should go next weekend or wait another week…
Thanks a lot for the updates and the excellent information.
