It was a busy weekend between the tulips ! Easter is always a very busy weekend with lots of visitors. More than 100.000 people visited the Keukenhof and the flower fields. It’s peak blooming time! In the Keukenhof every tulip is in bloom. Some parts are planted with some new bulbs last week to keep it on color for a longer time. Around the chess playground (next to the Oranje Nassau pavilion) a lot of different tulips are in full bloom. It’s a lovely sight!
When you stand on the outside deck of the windmill you can see the tulip fields in bloom. A lot of flower fields with tulips have been headed last week. The bulb famers are growing the flowers for the bulbs not for the colorful flower. When conditions are right. they take the flowerhead off. The bulb can grow better this way and it will blossom better next springtime when the bulb is blooming in gardens around the world.
When you are planning a visit to the Keukenhof, don’t delay it too long. I expect the flowers in the fields to be blooming until next weekend, than most of the flowers are headed. And into May there will be no fields blooming.
The Keukenhof looks wonderful at the moment. Outside and inside! The indoor exhibitions are renewed regularly and have great photo opportunities. Outside most flowers are in bloom. There are some spots that the tulips are not even in bloom yet. They are waiting for the visitors next week. For the people traveling in May please keep an eye to the weekly photo update. With this warm weather it is a bit unsure what Keukenhof will look like the last couple of weeks of spring season. Keep an eye to the photos and decide for yourself it is still worthwhile to travel to the Keukenhof area.
