Aalsmeer Flower Festival 2016
Spring isn’t over yet and the summer festivals are announced. Last year I visited the Aalsmeer Flower Festival for the first time (see my photo review) and I was pleasantly surprised by this festival.
This year the third edition of Aalsmeer Flower Festival takes place on Saturday 18th and Sunday June 19th. On six unique locations in Aalsmeer and Kudelstaart flowers and plants will be brought to the attention of visitors.
You can experience a rose show with the best and latest varieties, spectacular floral art and innovations, edible flowers and boat trips on the Westeinderplassen. For children there is plenty to do, like a walk through a rose garden and the possibility to make a flowerselfie.
AFF 2016 is set at six locations: Fort Kudelstaart, horticulture museum the Historic Garden, the Molenplein in Aalsmeer Centre, Royal flower auction FloraHolland flower arranging vocational school Boerma Instituut and spaced farms Belle Epoque and Morning Glory. On both days from 11:00 to 17:00 there will be a program at all these locations. Visitors have free access and can commute between locations with festival busses or a water taxi (for a small fee).
During the Aalsmeer Flower Festival the town is showing their flower connection. Arrangers make beautiful floral creations with fresh products from top growers. Breeders show their new rose varieties, gardeners offer surprising garden ideas and artists show how the flower and plant world inspires them. Visitors can also taste edible flowers or participate in a workshop on flower arranging. Fort Kudelstaart, part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam are guided tours are given. On 18 and 19 June is also the Open Garden Weekend from the magazine Growth & Bloom.
Aalsmeer Flower Festival is sponsored by the Province of North Holland, City Aalsmeer, Stimuflori, Rabobank Regio Schiphol Royal FloraHolland Aalsmeer Greenport and Waterdrinker Aalsmeer.
