Flower update – Week 17
We had a very exciting week in the Netherlands. We had the meet & greet last Friday! It was fun to talk to you all. We had the flower parade on Friday evening and Saturday during the day. More than 1.000.000 people visited this parade! And we went to two flower shows in Belgium. As you can see we are having a busy time! First the flower update!
Last week I wrote to dress warm and it was very necessary! We even had some hail and light snow last Sunday. This is very unusual for the time of this season. The news learned that it wasn’t this cold since 1991. The bad news is that it can be very cold when visiting the flowers in the fields and at Keukenhof. Pack warm clothes and rain gear for next week. The positive news is that the flowers are growing and blooming very slow.
Normally the flowers are headed right after peak blooming and now it takes longer to get there. Unfortunately I don’t know now when the tulips are headed. This is an unusual situation. We have to see when this is going to happen, but it might be a bit later than the first week of May. I will keep you posted on the social media of any heading activity in the fields.
Keukenhof is so beautiful at the moment. The Golden Age mosaic is at full bloom, many tulips are in bloom and the two blue Muscari rivers are in full bloom. The indoor daffodil show with over a 100 different varieties of daffodils was a huge succes. It will be replaced today by an indoor Alstroemeria show (at the Oranje Nassau pavilion)
And this weekend will be extra fun for children when the cast from the Sesame street is present during Family weekend. Perfect for photo opportunities with Big Bird and Elmo.

Past week
Last week we visited the Floralien and Floralia flower shows in Belgium. The Floralien in Gent is beautiful show full with flower art! It is only held every four years and we were very impressed by this event! Read our full review here. We visited the Floralia at Castle Groot Bijgaarden. A lovely spring flower show as backdrop of a small castle near Brussels. Lovely garden with gorgeous mixtures of spring flowers. Read our full review here.
And the annual spring flower parade also known as bloemencorso was held. The float of Keukenhof won the first price with a beautiful Delfts Blue themed float. A full photo review will be posted on the website soon. We are trying to catch up with our thousands of photos of last week. But we have a video of the parade posted here.
This Week
We are celebrating King’s Day tomorrow. This means that the Dutch will have a day off and that huge festivities all around Amsterdam and the Netherlands are held. Perfect day to visit the flower fields! You will blend between the Dutch when you wear something Orange or dress up in red, white and blue tones.
On Friday the 29th we will attend a lecture of the American Flower stylist Ariella Chezar well known by the articles in lifestyle magazines, like Martha Stewart Living and Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine. She has also designed floral arrangements for the White House. She is giving a free lecture and a book demonstration in the shopping center Stadshart Amstelveen. Read more information on our blog if you want to attend this Free(!) lecture. (yes this shopping center has a direct tram connection with Amsterdam City center.)
Enjoy your week!
Kind regards from Tulips in Holland,
Nienke
Hello! Thanks for the great article. Im planning to visit Amsterdam and the tulips fields this weekend, I wonder which day will be the best and if I will be able to see tulips already / still. Thank you.
So are the tulips in full bloom yet? I was planning to visit on Sunday the 28th. In your opinion, do you think this will be too late?
Hi,
Thank you for your update. We are planning to go to the Keukenhof next Tuesday or Wednesday, do you think it is still a good time for visiting the garden and the fields?
