I love to hear all your travel stories, answer your questions about the area and the Tulips in Holland or point you in the directions where you can find the beautiful floats of the flower parade and the flower festival at the white church.
No reservation required and free of charge – just come along when you want to visit between 2 and 6 pm. Hope to see you all there!
Address: Dorpsstraat 8, 2211 GC Noordwijkerhout (town center on walking distance of the white church and parade floats)
20 April – Evening flower parade and flower festival Noordwijkerhout
Every year on the evening before the large flower parade on Saturday the parade floats will be shown to the public on Friday evening. Together with lights, drumbands and a festive atmosphere this event shows the same floats as the parade on Saturday. This event is mainly visited by locals for whom the long parade on Saturday is too crowded.
The town of Noordwijkerhout makes a wonderful flower festival out of it. The central white church will be decorated with flowers, flower mosaics are made by schools, companies etc. There will be street entertainment and best of all: from around 4 PM the floats are parked in the town and you can see them very up close to make lovely photos.
At 9 PM the parade will circle the town of Noordwijkerhout and the floats will be parked at 10 PM (away from the public). Early on Saturday morning the floats will be transported to the start of the parade in Noordwijk.
Tips for visiting the parade at Noordwijkerhout: Be in Noordwijkerhout at around 2 to 3 PM, enjoy the festive town and see the parked floats. (Visit the tourist information center – see below :-)) Have dinner and enjoy the evening parade with lights and music. Be aware that the bus lines are diverted in the evening due to the parade, make sure you have a bike, (rental) car of the taxi information for a ride to the nearest train station.
21 April – Flower parade Noordwijk – Lisse – Haarlem
The flower parade from Noordwijk – Lisse and Haarlem will be held on Saturday the 21st of April.
Around 9:30 the floats will start at the Boulevard of Noordwijk. After a tour in Noordwijk and voorhout the floats will arrive around 1 PM at Sassenheim for a 1 hour lunch break. 2 PM the flower parade will continue their route to Lisse and they will arrive around 15:30 on the road next to Keukenhof. After Keukenhof the floats will drive to Hillegom, Bennebroek, Heemstede before they arrive around 9 PM in Haarlem.
Theme of this years parade is: Culture!
Parade day is one of the busiest days of Keukenhof. If possible please split your visit to keukenhof and the flower parade on different days if you want to see both. Keukenhof will be so crowded on parade day, that it is difficult to see and enjoy the flowers.
For example see Keukenhof on Friday or Sunday (Day before/ after parade day) and see the evening parade in Noordwijkerhout on Friday evening or in Haarlem on Saturday evening. Or visit the flower parade during the daytime in the town of Sassenheim (easy by train!) and visit Keukenhof on a different day. If it isn’t possible to split these to event make sure you travel very early to Keukenhof (arrive before 9:30 AM!) otherwise you will be stuck in the yearly largest traffic jam in the area. And you don’t want to get stuck in a bus, taxi, car during your holiday. See our tips for the flower parade.
21 April – Farmers Market Noordwijk
When you visit the start of the flower parade in Noordwijk, this is a great activity after watching the flower parade. The Farmers Market is held at the Museum Veldzicht (address: Herenweg 114, 2201 AL Noordwijk) from 10 AM until 5 PM. You can find lots of local products, activities for children, visit the dairy farm across the street with many cows, eat pancakes and drink coffee or tea. The area is know for flowers as well so you might end up next to a flower field. Local painters present their work at the exhibition as well. The entrance to the farm and market is free.
21 April – Flower Mosaics and parade market Lisse
Due to the late springtime the Flower Mosaics in the town center of Lisse are postponed from the 14th of April to the 21st of April. Around 40 mosaics will be presented along a bike route. The bike route is available at the tourist information center of Lisse (situated in the Black Tulip museum, town center Lisse)
During parade day you will find a interesting and busy parade market in the town center of Lisse as well. Well worth a visit to escape the very crowed Keukenhof during parade day.
