Corona virus in the Netherlands
The Corona measurements by the Dutch Government are announce last Thursday afternoon.
First my thoughts and prayers are with the people who are affected by the corona virus. People who are ill, the people working in health care, the people who are planning to travel to the Netherlands in the upcoming weeks and the companies who are affected.
While we don’t have a complete overview about the full impact yet, it is for us important to inform you about the measurements that are clear at the moment. One of them is that all public gatherings where more than 100 people are present are to be cancelled. This measurement is valid until April 1, 2020. We are not sure what will happen after April 1st, this will probably be announced shortly before April 1st.
As a result, museums (like The Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam) and theatres are officially closed. The Dutch government has also advised restaurants that have more than 100 seats, to take precautionary measures. Some tourist attractions will remain open (with max. capacity 100 people) and will operate on shorter or different opening times. Most botanic gardens and zoos are closed.
Furthermore, it is encouraged that as many people as possible will work at home over the next two weeks. Universities are having online lessons, large events are cancelled. These measures are aimed at ensuring that people have less contact with each other and that people with symptoms stay at home. This means that all business will not necessarily go on as usual in The Netherlands in the upcoming weeks.
While the tulips in Holland are still growing, at this moment it isn’t clear, if the different tulip festivals all around the Netherlands will be held or can be attended. In the next hours, days or weeks, I expect that it will become clearer. We are updating the information as soon as possible after the official statements from the different tulip festivals. I know a lot of people will have questions; we all do. As soon we have more information, we will share it with you.
If you have questions concerning the coronavirus measurements in The Netherlands, you can consult the information from the Dutch government
For now stay safe everyone! ???
