Springtime has definitely started in the Netherlands. Gorgeous weather, lots of sunshine and no wind. Temperatures are around the 15 degrees during daytime and still freezing at night. The flowers are doing very well at this time.
Since last week the hyacinths are blooming in the most wonderful colors like pinks, whites, purples and some of the early tulips are blooming incredibly red. Together with the last yellow daffodil fields it looks like a colorful patchwork on the ground. For the people travelling in by plane, have a look out the window (and take pictures!) before landing. Great changes that you will have a wonderful overview of the flower fields.
See here some of the photos made this morning of the flower fields and the Keukenhof. See here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nring23/sets/72157626466365872/
The number of visitors are increasing. Lots of cars are stopping next to the flower fields and create small traffic jams. The Keukenhof is getting very busy in weekends but during the weekdays it is very comfortable.
Due to the temperature the other tulips on the fields are growing very well. My guess is that they will be blooming next week or the week after it. In the Keukenhof the flowers are getting less green and more colorful. In the Keukenhof you can still see some crocus (they are gone on the fields) and especially in the forest part of the Keukenhof the flowers are a bit late. So muscari, daffodils, crocus, etc. can be seen in the next weeks. Some of the early tulips are showing their color outdoors as well. And the big tulips are at their best indoors. And yes even some of the flowers are headed already.
When you visit the Keukenhof, take a look as well at the indoor exhibitions. There is a nice Gerbera Exhibition in the Oranje Nassau Pavillion and in the Beatrix Pavillion there is a beautiful Orchids – Anthurium – Bromelia exhibition.
One last tip for visitors of the Keukenhof. To avoid long lines, traffic jams, etc. Be here before 10.00 / 10 AM or go after 14.00 / 2 PM. This morning it was very crowed at 11 o clock already. Next weekend will be Flower parade weekend and the weekend after is Easter weekend. So be early!
Have fun!
