Finally it is warm enough for the tulips. Last week a lot of tulips were still green, right now the colors of the tulips are starting to pop up inside the Keukenhof. The hyacinths are getting their color as well and the strong fragrance is lovely! The crocuses are pretty done and are almost gone.
The Keukenhof is getting ready for Queens day, today they are making a lovely mosaic between the Juliana and Willem Alexander pavilion. And the windmill as well is nicely decorated with the Dutch colors. Next Tuesday you can see the abdication on screens at the Keukenhof as well.
The flower fields outside are in full bloom. Daffodils, hyacinths and tulips all bloom together. Just drive around the roads Zwartelaan, Loosterweg noord and Loosterweg zuid, Achterweg Zuid and Essenlaan. by bike or by car. And do ride around a little further in the area of Noordwijkerhout, Sassenheim, Voorhout, Lisse, de Zilk and Hillegom and you will find more flower fields.
See photos at flickr and videos at youtube for a indication how the Keukenhof and the flower fields looked yesterday morning.
Will it be worth to visit Keukenhof next week?
Yes and make sure you rent a bike (or walk around) the flower fields as well. It is an absolute plus on the Keukenhof experience. It is a perfect week for a visit to the flower fields. Don’t wait too long with a visit if your main goal is the flower fields. Same daffodils in the fields are near or almost over their peak. The hyacinths and tulips are still in bloom and some tulip fields are almost blooming.
For all people with the question: what is the best weekend to visit?
From now the Keukenhof and flower fields are well worth a visit. The Keukenhof will be beautiful next weekend and it will stay beautiful until the end (20th May). And we don’t know when the tulips will be headed. When they do, you will read it in this post.
Meet up?
And for the people who want to meet up – I will be in Keukenhof on Saturday morning 4th of May from 11 – 12 at the Willem Alexander Pavilion. Just let me know or stop by to say hi.
