Bloemencorso Zundert 2015

Zundert, a small town in the Netherlands located at the Belgian border, hosts the world’s biggest flower parade, featuring twenty floats of twenty meters long and ten meters high.
Flower parades are a tradition that is met in a wide variety in places all over the world, but, not surprisingly in a country famous for its flowers, the tradition is especially popular in The Netherlands. There are more than 25 flower parades, big and small, spread over the country.
The community of Zundert lives for its parade. Each and every person in Zundert, young and old, is involved in some way or other in construction of the floats and the keeping of the flower fields. It really has the community in its grip, there’s no escape if you live here.
The childhood dream in Zundert is not te become a famous football player, but to be a float designer. Mostly young people from Zundert itself are responsible for designing the floats, building the scale models and overseeing the construction, the details, the colouring and all other aspects of creating the huge floats.
Float designers and competing districts in Zundert are completely free to decide what they design and build. The only limitations are the sizes of the floats and the general statement that the parade is a dahlia flower parade. Use of other materials is allowed.
Zundert, incidentally, is also the birth place of the famous painter Vincent van Gogh. 2015 is the 125th anniversary of Vincent’s death. Just like the Keukenhof the theme of this Bloemencorso is Inspired by the works of Van Gogh.
