Things to do – November 2015
Autumn is in full swing now and we are heading towards the winter. An interesting time to travel to the Netherlands. The summer crowds have gone and some very interesting exhibitions and activities are available. Have a look at the things to do for november 2015.
Film festival
One of my favorite festivals is the IDFA International Documentary Film Festival. Perfect for an cold, wet and windy evening in Amsterdam. The viewings are scattered throughout the city. There are documentaries on display at the main hall of the Tuschinski theatre (zaal 1), a wonderful Art Deco style movie theatre. More info: IDFA International Documentary Film Festival
Exhibitions
‘Asia > Amsterdam. Luxury in the Golden Age’ at the Rijksmuseum
With 170 treasures from China, Japan, India and Batavia, ‘Asia > Amsterdam. Luxury in the Golden Age’ tells the story of the excitement created by the Asian treasures that were shipped to Holland in the 17th century. Lacquer work, ivory, silver, silk, ebony, jewellery and enormous quantities of porcelain poured into Amsterdam, the then bustling ‘capital of the world’, to enrich the interiors of the increasingly prosperous Dutch bourgeoisie. Until mid Januari 2016 at the Rijksmuseum.
And especially for people who love flowers make sure you visit the 17th, 18th and 19th century Print Room that host the most beautiful floral prints and drawings of all time. See more information about the floral cabinets.
Exhibition Munch : Van Gogh
Discover the parallels between two iconic artists: Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch. Admire the many masterpieces from all over the world, including ‘The scream’ by Munch and ‘Starry night over the Rhone’ by Van Gogh in one spectacular exhibition. Until mid January 2016 at the Van Gogh Museum.
Amsterdam Light festival
No longer do we have to dread the dark winter months in Amsterdam. Thanks to Amsterdam Light Festival, Amsterdam is transformed every year into a true city of lights with the help of contemporary (inter)national light artists. During this annual festival for young and old, both the residents of Amsterdam and the city’s many visitors are treated to a spectacle of light. At the same time, the festival offers talented (young) light artists a platform to present their latest work. This year, the 55-day festival is dedicated to theme ‘Friendship’ and can be visited from 28 November 2015 to 17 January 2016! More information: Amsterdam Light festival
Eindhoven Light festival
From 7 until 14 November 2015, Eindhoven will be all about Light Festival GLOW. Around 50 light artists have created light installations, sculptures, projections and performanced. These all offer the visitor of GLOW a surprisingly new perspective on the city. GLOW can be visited, free of charge. Over 650,000 people visited GLOW last year. More information: Glow Light festival.
