There is so much to see and do in the Netherlands than just visiting our capital Amsterdam. Small quaint town, seaside villages, lovely flower fields at springtime. The Netherlands has a lot to offer. We selected the top 6 places to visit in the Netherlands besides Amsterdam.
1. Keukenhof Gardens
When you are visiting the Netherlands during springtime you have to visit the well known flower fields and Keukenhof Garden in the town of Lisse. Located on 45 min by public transportation from Amsterdam central you can see fields full with tulips. A perfect way to celebrate spring!
2. Zaanse Schans
Windmills, clogs and cheese you can find them all at the Zaanse Schans 30 min outside of Amsterdam. Take the bus or train and walk around this lovely town in the typical green colors. There are several windmills to see and don’t forget to watch the cheese and clogs making demonstration.
3. Rotterdam
The second largest city in the Netherlands and often overlooked by tourist. But you can find the gorgeous Markthal, the cube houses, lots of interesting musea, lovely architecture and all the dynamics of a port city. The city of Rotterdam can be combined with the UNESCO Heritage site of Kinderdijk where you can find many working windmills.
4. Delft
Well known for the famous blue Delft pottery but also for the picturesque houses and church in the city centre of the old town. There are canal boat rides and walking tours available. Delft can be combined with the city of The Hague or number 5.
5. The Hague
While Amsterdam is still the capital of the Netherlands, The Hague is the seat of government. It is a royal city with noble houses, embassies and historic areas. Stroll along the market squares and shopping malls and have lunch in one of the many restaurants along the squares.
6. Utrecht
A quaint city on a short trained from Amsterdam Central. When you walk around the old town centre you can see a different type of canals compared to Amsterdam. You can find lovely musea and restaurants in this student city, ever thought to visit the Miffy museum?
