Flower update – Week 11
The area is getting ready for all the visitors in the next weeks. From the outside you can see that the bike rental is placed at the new parking lot at Keukenhof. And the bulb sellers are setting up their shops along the roads.
Keukenhof will open its doors at the 24th of March and the weekend after that its opening weekend and Easter weekend at the same time. Easter weekend is one of the busiest weekends during spring; make sure you travel early (arrive before 10 AM!) if you don’t want to spend your time in traffic jams!
What to expect for next week and the week after? You can see more yellow daffodils in the fields! If you see a purple field let me know the location! This should be a purple crocus field around this time. The hyacinths are still growing and the tulips just woke up from their winter sleep. The tulips still need some time to grow before they get to bloom. I expect no tulips in the fields before the second week of April. And just like the daffodils it takes a while before peak blooming of the tulips. It all depends on the weather and temperature in the next weeks!
For all people emailing us what the best time to travel is for the Netherlands. Unfortunately we can’t predict a best date for the blooming in the fields or the blooming at Keukenhof. Really I wish I could! Only nature decides when and how long for the blooming. We can only give the estimates based on the last decade and the current weather.
