Weekly flower update week 10
The first weekly flower update for spring 2017!
Current status of the flowers
The most asked question of this week is: “When will the tulips be in bloom?” Followed by: “I am traveling on date X do you think the tulips will be in bloom?” Last Sunday I drove around the flower field area around Keukenhof to see the current status of the flower fields. As you can see on the photo most fields are still covered in straw and it takes a couple of weeks to see some color. Somewhere in the next two weeks you might find the first crocus fields in bloom and see more of the green sprouts of the daffodils. For tulips in the fields it is too early, during a regular year the tulips bloom around the last 2 weeks of April to the first week of May.
Have a look here for more information about the blooming of the flowers. And have a look at the photos made last weekend in the streets of my hometown. The crocus and snowdrops are in bloom already.
Tickets and Tours for 2017

National Tulip Day
On Saturday January 22nd we celebrated National Tulip Day in the Netherlands. This is the start of the tulip season in the flower shops around the country. It is celebrated by a huge pop up tulip garden on Dam Square in Amsterdam. Around the 200.000 tulips are set up by a large group of volunteers and every one is allowed to pick tulips for free during the afternoon until the garden is empty. My colleague interviewed a lot of people and asked them two questions … “Where are you from and what is your favorite tulip color.” Have a look at the video!
