Weekly flower update week 12 2017
Happy Springtime to you all! Today is the official start of spring! Thursday the 23rd of March the Keukenhof will open its doors and we will have a lovely time between all the spring flowers in the different tulip festivals all over the Netherlands. I can’t wait! Have a look below for all the information you need this week ….
Current status of the flowers
Last week we announced the first crocus field in bloom … now we can add the daffodils to this list! Around the flower field area you can see bright patches of yellows color dotting around the area. It is a bright and festive sight to see! Make sure you book a window seat when you arrive by plane, during clear weather and with the right wind, you should see some colors during landing or take off at Schiphol Airport.
We have added a new 360 camera to our photo bag last weekend. We still need a bit of tweaking, but we managed to take some first photos and videos of the daffodil fields in 360 degrees. When you watch these photos on a phone or tablet make sure you rotate yourself with the device and look up and under while rotating. For the people with a desktop or laptop you can scroll around with your mouse or trackpad. We are pretty excited to see your reactions. And as you can see in this link I am very happy with the open sunroof of my car (when a rainstorm is approaching!). See the photos en videos here.
And for the people anxiously waiting for new tulip news …. the tulips in the fields are not in bloom yet. See our FAQ: When are the tulips bloom?

Several Shanty Choirs and Marching Bands make Keukenhof extra merry! Have a look at the program when you enter the garden.
This week my keukenhof pass and 2017 map arrived by mail. The map is uploaded to our website so have a look around the new keukenhof for 2017. And if you haven’t bought your tickets yet you can find them on our tickets and tours page.

Picking tulips for a good cause
Last week the Tulip Trade Event of the Netherlands was held. On this event tulip exporters and tulip breeders in the Netherlands show their full product range of all their potential trading partners from all around the world. After the event all the tulips are regularly discarded(!). One of the companies participating, Nord Lommerse in Hillegom, didn’t wanted to trow away their thousands of tulips. They hosted a tulip picking party for a very good cause: The Hanukkah Mariette’s Child Care center in Ghana.
People could pick as many tulips and pay at the exit. Over 200 new and luxurieus tulip varieties were available (more than a staggering 36.000 tulips in total!). With the raised money the center can provide food, clothes and education to the children in the center. I couldn’t stop picking tulips for this good cause, so my house looks like a flower shop now. It is filled with many vases full of colorful tulips, Wonderful initiative and hoping for the same event next year!
