When are the tulips in bloom in 2018 ?
Every year this is the most frequently asked question is: when are the tulips in bloom in 2018 ? Will the tulips bloom on the days you travel to see them. It is a difficult question because every year the tulips will be in bloom on a different moment. It all depends on the temperature and rain during winter and springtime.
A cold winter and springtime can cause a later blooming and warm weather cause the tulips to bloom earlier. To give the difference: beginning of April 2014 all the tulip fields were in bloom due to a warm winter and springtime. A year earlier in 2013 we had the tulips in the fields at the first week of May 2013. A difference of 4 weeks and that is a lot. Tulips are generally in bloom for three-week window. During spring 2015 we had a regular spring time with the blooming starting around mid april until the first week of May. And in 2016 we had a regular spring at first but the weather turned very cold during April. In 2017 we had a warm start, followed by a very cold beginning of April and a warm end of April 2017.
Based on the last 10 years, the best time for visiting the tulip fields is the last 2 weeks of April. See here for all travel tips to the tulip fields.
Will 2018 be a early, normal or late springtime is hard to say. From the beginning of March we will have the weekly flower updates to provide you information about the blooming status of the spring flowers. The blooming normally starts with the crocus at the beginning of March, followed by the bright yellow of the Daffodils. Later on the hyacinths get in bloom and at last the tulips. It is a lovely sight to see and many people have seeing the fields full with flowers on their bucket list.

In 2019 we have the opportunity to see fields of tulips either April 17-18 or April 29-30. Do you have a recommendation? Thanks
Hi Kally. It takes a long time until april 2019. We can give expectations around 2 weeks ahead. For over a year is impossible to tell. Based on the past 10 year I would go for april 29-30 april. But in case of an early spring that might be too late. Nature is unpredictable.
I am planning to visit on the coming saturday (24 March). is it too early/cold? will there be anything to see? Thank you.

Hi Nienke, I was going through some reviews in social media and get to know that this year due to winter it’s 2week delay for flowers to bloom. We are planing to visit for the first time during May 7-8th to see this will it be too late …?

Hi Shyamly, It is too early to tell what the tulips will do in the first week of May. We can have a heatwave or a hail storm that will damage the flowers. Please read along our newsletter. We can forecast the chance of blooming tulips at around 2 weeks ahead.

26 to 29 April 22018 or
4 to 7 May 2018?

Please decide for yourself, every date mentioned has different tulips and blooming status. The weather can change everything day by day. If you would twist my arm 😉 I would choose the 26 – 29th to be sure the fields not headed yet.

Thank you for your all your tips and detailed updates and information!! My husband and I are visiting Amsterdam 21-23 April and while I understand that 21st is the flower parade and it is best to avoid visiting Keukenhof that day. But 22nd is a Sunday – would it still be too overcrowded for some spectacular photography from your experience? We have friends with us who leave on Sunday and plan to visit the fields that day but we stay until Monday the 23rd and I really want to be able to have the best experience. I am also contemplating going for the(rather expensive) helicopter ride over the fields.. any tips/ comments on that? Please suggest! Many thanks in advance!! 🙂 🙂
Sunday will be crowded as well. For the best experience please visit Keukenhof on Monday the 23rd if you can. If hat is not possible keep in mind that a crowded visit is better than no visit at all 🙂 The helicopter flights near Keukenhof only fly on Saturdays The other helicopter flights are in the area with the largest flower fields of the Netherlands (Noordoostpolder, not near Keukenhof) Wishing you a lovely time in the Netherlands.
