Running and walking along the Flower fields (charity event)
For the very sportive readers among us a running event is held on the 8th of April. You can run 5 km, 10 km or 10 English Miles. And for the people who like to walk together there are walking distances of 6,5 km, 10 km, 23 km and 30,5 km. For people with a walker/ wheelchair there is a walking distance of 4,6 km. It is a charity event for cancer and your signup fee (€9,50) will contribute to that. Last year there was a very festive atmosphere with music, lovely food and a lot of spectators cheering for everyone who finished. Sign up in advance (before April 6th) at their website and everyone who participates will get a medal.
Evening flower parade and flower festival Noordwijkerhout
Every year on the evening before the large flower parade on Saturday the parade floats will be shown to the public on Friday evening. Together with lights, drumbands and a festive atmosphere this event shows the same floats as the parade on Saturday. This event is mainly visited by locals for whom the long parade on Saturday is too crowded.
The town of Noordwijkerhout makes a wonderful flower festival out of it. The central white church will be decorated with flowers, flower mosaics are made by schools, companies etc. There will be street entertainment and best of all: from around 4 PM the floats are parked in the town and you can see them very up close to make lovely photos.
At 9 PM the parade will circle the town of Noordwijkerhout and the floats will be parked at 10 PM (away from the public). Early on Saturday morning the floats will be transported to the start of the parade in Noordwijk.
Tips for visiting the parade at Noordwijkerhout: Be in Noordwijkerhout at around 2 to 3 PM, enjoy the festive town and see the parked floats. (Visit the tourist information center – see below :-)) Have dinner and enjoy the evening parade with lights and music. Be aware that the bus lines are diverted in the evening due to the parade, make sure you have a bike, (rental) car of the taxi information for a ride to the nearest train station.
Meet & greet at Tourist information center Noordwijkerhout
For the third year in a row I will host a Meet & Greet between 2pm – 6 pm at the Tourist information center of Noordwijkerhout. Last year around 80 people from all around the world, from Australia to Canada, India, South Africa, Germany, USA and UK, came along to say hi! It was a lovely afternoon at the center.
I love to hear all your travel stories, answer your questions about the area and the Tulips in Holland or point you in the directions where you can find the beautiful floats of the flower parade and the flower festival at the white church.
No reservation required – just come along when you want to visit between 2 and 6 pm. Hope to see you all there!

If I’m arriving in Amsterdam on May 18, are all activities over?
Hi Rick, Unfortunately there is an end to springtime in the Netherlands. Keukenhof will be closed on the 13th of May. By the second half of May all tulips are gone. But there are a lot of other lovely things to see and do in the Netherlands by that time.
