Weekly Flower update 2019 – week 13
A very good morning from The Netherlands to you. The flower fields are getting in bloom more and more and the Keukenhof looks lovely. It is a beautiful time to travel to the tulips in Holland. Have a look at the news of this week .
Current status of the flowers
When you drive around the flower area around Keukenhof you can see much more flower fields in bloom compared to last week. The daffodils are waving with their yellow bright colors and the deep pink, purple and whites are becoming more visible from the hyacinths. Next to the entrance of Keukenhof a couple of beautiful hyacinth fields are in bloom. When you are traveling in the next weeks make sure you tour around by bike as well. It is a fun experience to see the fields up close. It is not allowed to enter the fields without permission of the bulb farmer, but from the side of the roads these fields look stunning too.
The past week there was a stunning Fresia indoor flower show and the tulips at the Willem Alexander pavilion are still in bloom. With the warm temperatures from last weekend you can see more and more flowers in bloom at Keukenhof as well. Keep an eye to our social media to see current photos of the flowers. (see the social media buttons below this newsletter).
Weather
After a very warm and sunny Friday and Saturday the temperature has dropped a bit. For the next week freezing temperatures are predicted at night and daytime temperatures are around 12 C or 54 F. A bit more rain is forecasted as well. This will keep the flower fresh for a longer time. After the upcoming weekend more sun is forecasted.
Are you wondering when the tulips are in bloom in the fields or when the best time is to visit Keukenhof? Have a look at this blogpost “when the tulips are in bloom in 2019“. Planning to visit but you don’t have a ticket yet? Have a look at our selection of tickets and tours here.
Upcoming blooming
Due to the slightly colder weather in the upcoming week I expect the same kind of blooming for the next week. Daffodils, hyacinths and some early tulips at Keukenhof. The crocus are getting over their peak blooming so these will become less visible. After some sunny days we might see more tulip fields getting into bloom. Have a look at the calendar of Keukenhof for all activities at Keukenhof.
Tulip festivals
Did you now that The Netherlands has more tulip festivals than just Keukenhof? A few tips where you can visit the tulips in the upcoming weeks:
City Festivals: In both the city of Amsterdam and Delft there will be a walking route along the tulips in the city. The tulips in Amsterdam are placed around the city in large colourful pots and the tulips in Delft can be found in gardens and courtyards of almshouses. At some dates larger festivities will be organised. have a look online for more information.
Just like last year a tulip festival will be organised in the NoordoostPolder. With a car route of 80 km and various walking and biking routes you can see the amazing long stretches of flower fields. You can visit a tulip information garden and unique for this area you can fly by Helicopter or by hot air balloon over the flower fields. This tulip festival is organised from 19 April – 5 May.
In the top of North-Holland you can visit the flower days in Anna Paulowna from 27 April – 1 May. You can see the fields in bloom and you can see lovely flower mosaics.
New for this year is the flower festival in Nieuwkoopclose to towns like Alphen A/d Rijn and Woerden from 12 April – 11 May.
And a special mention to the Hortus Bulborum which will open next Saturday (6th of April) until the 16th of May. This place can be described as a museum of flower bulbs. Every year volunteers will plant bulbs from centuries ago. It is a unique opportunity to see flowers in bloom that where popular during the tulip mania of the 16th and 17th century. CBS made a lovely item on them see here.
