Flower update – week 13
After a beautiful Sunny Saturday we got a very rainy and stormy Easter Weekend. The people who have attend the periscope broadcasting know this already … the tulips in the Willem Alexander Pavilion are in bloom! And throughout the park there are lots of crocus, hyacinths and daffodils in bloom. It is a lovely sight walking around the garden. Especially when it is sunny and dry.
The Oranje Nassau pavilion is filled with the most beautiful tulips as well. And you can vote for your favorite tulip! Looking forward to see these results! And the Beatrix Pavilion has a dazzling amount of the most beautiful orchids. I definitely need to photograph these flowers.
Outside the Keukenhof the fields are getting more into bloom. The first hyacinth fields in bloom are spotted and even a very early tulip field is in bloom. So when you are in Keukenhof make sure to rent a bike and bike around!
What to expect for next week
Keukenhof will have a Dutch themed weekend from 1-3 April. With cheese market, Dutch dancing, Dutch food (try the Stroopwafels or Poffertjes if you can) etc. You can find lots of these activities in the windmill area of Keukenhof. And when you are there make sure you visit the Holland themed garden in the Inspirational area. It is one of my favorite gardens this year with lots of Delfts Blue.
About the blooming for next week: I expect to see more Hyacinths fields in bloom. These are so colorful and the fragrance is delicious. Aside from the early tulips I don’t expect to see more general tulip fields in bloom yet. Every day you can see more daffodil fields in bloom. Make sure you have a window seat when you arrive by plan and watch the area between your plane and the seaside. When you have clear visibility you should be able to see the fields from the air.
When I look at the weather forecasts it will be a typical spring week with some rain showers and sunshine. The temperature is forecasted above the 10 degrees C (50 F) but you might want to bring a windbreaker jacket (and dress in layers) when you are visiting from a warmer climate. I am still bringing my scarf and knitted hat when I am walking outside.
Hi!!
Thank you so much for your updates, I really like your site! I am visiting Amsterdam on April 22rd-26th, do you think that is a good time to visit Keukenhof and see the tulips? Or may it be too late? I really hope to see some, it seems so beautiful when they are in bloom!
I think the flowers will be in bloom. It all depends on the weather and temperature in the next weeks.
Could you please provide us the status on the tulips in the nearby fields? I’m planning to visit Keukenhof this weekend and I would also be visiting the fields. It would be great if you could post some pictures of the fields nearby!
I post a photo of the tulip field in bloom next to the terrace of Keukenhof in this weeks newsletter. And find a video of the status of the Hyacinths last weekend on our Facebook page. Next photos will be up by Sunday/Monday.
Hello Nienke,
Thank you for all your hard works which are informative and enjoyable for people all over the world.
I live in Sydney Australia.
I will be visiting Keukenhof on 4 May 2016. I am very concern it will be too late for Keukenhof as well as tulip field.
What do you think.
Thanks so much
Regards,
Susanta
Hi Susanta, It all depends on the temperature and weather in the next few weeks. The first week of May is known for the heading of the tulips but not all fields are headed on the same day. The keukenhof garden looks beautiful until the end of season.
Hi,
I visited the garden on Apr 2 and enjoyed it very much. The only disappointment was that the tulip bulb fields didn’t bloom (except for a couple of strips of red and yellow) and so I didn’t take the boat ride. I surely want to make another visit just to see the tulip bulb fields. Considering the fact that I have to make an international travel, I would like your advise on when could I visit again (during the season) so that I could enjoy the beauty of the tulip bulb fields?
Thanks,
Ajay
The beginning of april is generally not the best time to see tulips in bloom. I expect the last 2 weeks of april as a lovely time to see the tulips in bloom
Hello! I’m flying into the Netherlands today. How do the tulip fields look?
The tulip fields are starting to bloom, have a look on the actual status on our social media you can see the red tulip fields in bloom. Make sure you have a window seat to see the colorful fields from above!
Hi Nienke-
I will be visiting Keukenhof and its surrounding areas on the 28th April. Do you think it will be late? Its my first time with my children, they are so excited and looking forward to see the flowers in full bloom.
Thanks
I think it will be a lovely time! It all depends on the temperature and weather in the next few days.
Hi how come no weekly update in 3 weeks now (since March 30)?
We are so busy that we concentrate on our newsletter and social media. I am sorry. Hope to post soon!
Are the flowers at Keukenhof nice all the way until it closes? Or is it less impressive by the tail end of the season? I am planning on going around May 13th.
Thanks,
Mark
Hi Mark, it depends on the blooming. We had a slightly early springtime and at this point it is very cold (even snowing in some parts of the Netherlands) When it is cold the blooming takes longer. I would decide a few days before you visit to see if it is worthwhile to go. (And have a look on our Facebook / twitter to see what the status is)
