Getting ready for tulip season – week 1 2019
While a lot of Dutch people are doing a polar bear plunge in sea, the outdoor tulips are still tucked away underneath a tick layer of straw and they need some cold weather to start growing and blooming during tulip season. It will take at least until the end of February, beginning of March to see some spring flowers in bloom.
However the first indoor tulips are located in the flower shops already! Perfectly in time for the celebration of National Tulip day in Amsterdam at the 19th of January. In the morning a large tulip picking garden is created on Dam Square in the hearth of Amsterdam. In the afternoon you can pick your own bunch of tulips in the picking garden for free. See the photos and videos of 2018. Hope to see you all there!
Keukenhof will open its doors on Thursday the 21st of March and Sunday the 19th of May 2019 will the last day of opening of spring season 2019. Based on the past 10 years we have created a blogpost about the blooming of the tulips in 2019. Have a look to see when the tulips are in bloom in 2019. The theme of Keukenhof 2019 will be Flower Power.
We have added the tickets for Keukenhof to our tickets and tours page:
– Skip the line tickets to Keukenhof 2019
– Tickets for Keukenhof by public transportation
New tickets for organised tours will be added in the next few weeks.
At the end of January 2019 the first indoor tulip show the Westerkogge Flora is held in a sport hall in De Goorn. When you are traveling by car this is a lovely opportunity to see the tulips during mid winter.
